Ludovic Kennedy
PURSUIT: The Sinking of the Bismarck
In May 1941 the German battleship BISMARCK, at that time the most formidable ship afloat, escaped into the Atlantic. Her presence there posed a fearful threat to the convoys that kept Britain alive. Here Kennedy details the events that followed, the sinking of HMS HOOD, the pride of the British fleet, and the subsequent hunt that covered over two million square miles, ranged from the Baltic to the Arctic to the Bay of Biscay. Nearly 4, 000 British and German sailors died. It was one of the greatest naval battles of all time.
